We all have our own personal preferences when it comes to running shoes. We also like different experiences for specific runs. For example, a soft midsole for easy runs, and a more responsive one for faster runs. This is why Nike created their nine box construct. It helps the runner choose the style of cushioning and ride that they like. Simply put, it’s Your Choice.
Nike’s Road Running Shoe range consists of three silos: Pegasus, Vomero, and Structure. You can choose to run in responsive cushioning, maximum cushioning, or supportive cushioning. Although, it’s worth highlighting that all of the models within Nike’s Road Running Shoe line-up support your feet, ankles, and legs during running.
This article focuses on three Nike models: the Vomero Plus Running Shoes, the Pegasus Premium Running Shoes, and the Structure 26 Running Shoes. As Nike kindly supplied us with testing pairs, this article presents an overview of what to expect from each model.

Run Powered - Pegasus Premium
The Nike Pegasus Premium Running Shoes feature a unique midsole construction. A ¾ length ReactX midsole is positioned underneath a full-length sculpted Air Zoom unit, with a full-length ZoomX midsole positioned on top.
This design is engineered to deliver maximum responsiveness. Hence the phrase ‘Run Powered’.

Run Bigger - Vomero Plus
The Nike Vomero Plus Running Shoes feature a full-length ZoomX midsole. The high-stack height is complimented by wide base nets and rocker geometry.
This design is engineered to feel exceptionally plush and cushioned underfoot. Hence the phrase ‘Run Bigger’.

Run Supported - Structure 26
The Nike Structure 26 Running Shoes feature a full-length ReactX midsole with a mid-foot support system.
This design makes the Structure 26 the most stable shoes within Nike’s Road Running Shoe line-up. Hence the phrase ‘Run Supported’.

FA25 Hero Styles Review

Nike Vomero Plus Running Shoes
How does the cushioning feel?
The full-length ZoomX midsole feels exceptionally plush when you step into the Vomero Plus Running Shoes. However, the rocker geometry creates a slight firmness in the heel area - which helps create a sense of stability.
Performance wise, the midsole feels incredibly cushioned and energetic. Transitions from landing to take-off also feel very smooth. And to top it off, it feels light, agile, and stable. Ultimately, it’s almost impossible to find any flaws in the cushioning.
The Vomero Plus Running Shoes are without doubt one of the best options you can choose for everyday miles and long-distance runs. Not only does the cushioning feel like it’s taking lots of stress off of your working muscles - helping you recover for the next day - it delivers great energy return when you’re pushing the pace in steady runs.
It’s fair to say that, of all the max-cushioned running shoes we’ve ever tested, the Vomero Plus have the most agile and dynamic feel.In short, we think the Vomero Plus Running Shoes are unbelievably good.
How do they fit?
We recommend choosing your normal running shoe size in the Vomero Plus. The heel collar feels plush and soft, yet it supports your ankle in all the right places. The toe box offers an accommodating fit that should suit runners with broader feet.
Nike Pegasus Premium Running Shoes
How does the cushioning feel?
The Pegasus Premium Running Shoes feel ultra-responsive as soon as you step into them. And it takes a few kilometres - at least - to get used to the unique midsole design.
Once the cushioning is broken in, the main sensation is one of propulsion, but in a very unique way. It doesn’t propel you forward like a plate does, but it definitely makes you want to move with more purpose.
While the cushioning offers a lot of protection, the lack of softness doesn’t offer great comfort for slower-paced miles. It doesn’t feel overly stable either, so it’s not necessarily the best choice when your legs are tired - and if you have unstable feet or ankles.
But this is exactly inline with Nike’s ‘Run Powered’ message. The midsole offers maximum-energy return for steady-paced runs - when you’re feeling motivated and ready to go.
It’s worth pointing out that Nike’s ‘Premium’ Running Shoes will always split opinion. The unique and forward-thinking designs might end up feeling like the best - or worst - running shoes you’ve ever worn.
How do they fit?
We recommend choosing your normal running shoe size in the Pegasus Premium. In our opinion, the heel counter could offer slightly better lock down, but it doesn’t lack support. The rest of the upper feels impressively light, yet supportive. The toe box also offers an accommodating fit.
Nike Structure 26 Running Shoes
How does the cushioning feel?
As you might expect, the midsole feels very stable underfoot. This is down to midsole geometry and firmness of the cushioning.
Out on a run, the cushioning feels protective, but you feel relatively close to the ground. Which further enhances the sensation of stability.
The Structure 26 Running Shoes potentially lack the cushioning required to feel comfortable for long-distance runs. And the midsole is likely to feel best for everyday miles. The benefit of the responsive nature of the cushioning is that it performs across a range of intensities.
There’s no doubt the Nike Structure 26 Running Shoes are very well suited to runners who need - or prefer - more support. This model is by far the most stable feeling option in Nike’s Road Running Shoe line-up. It’s worth highlighting that the extra support delivers a natural sensation that doesn’t feel intrusive or restrictive.
How do they fit?
Like the midsole, the upper of the Structure 26 Running Shoes feels very supportive. The midfoot encapsulation is exceptionally good. It grips and holds your arch in a manner that makes your feet feel really secure.
While the Structure 26 fits snugly in the toe box, we still recommend choosing your normal shoe size.

Choose Your Ride - FA25
Hopefully it’s clear that there’s a lot of choice on offer in Nike’s Road Running Shoe line-up. There should be a style of cushioning that suits your needs and preferences.
If you’re searching for maximum cushioning and comfort, you can pick from the Vomero Plus or the Vomero 18 Running Shoes. The Vomero Plus offers a softer, bouncier, and more dynamic ride - making it suitable for a wide range of paces. While the Vomero 18 still offers a very plush and protective feel, the dual-density midsole offers a more stable ride - meaning it’s best for slower-paced runs.
For those who enjoy a more responsive ride for daily miles, you can choose between the Pegasus and Pegasus Premium. The Pegasus 41 Running Shoes deliver a protective, yet responsive ride - that performs across a range of paces. The Pegasus Premium is essentially a super-charged Pegasus that offers unmatched energy return for steady runs.
Finally, for runners seeking a supportive experience, the Structure 26 Running Shoes are the best option. Interestingly, Cole Hocker - who won Olympic gold in the 1,500-meter run in Paris 2024 - does the majority of his running in the Structure 26 Running Shoes. In his opinion, it offers just the right balance of cushioning and stability - that delivers the right support for his stride. As mentioned in this Nike Newsroom article.
Of course, models will be added to this assortment. Most notably the Nike Vomero Premium Running Shoes that launch in HO25 - which will be available at Run4It.
Finally, you can also choose the ride you’re looking for on a given day. For example, the Vomero Plus Running Shoes might be the perfect choice for your long-distance runs. On the other hand, you may prefer the Structure 26 Running Shoes when your legs are feeling tired and fatigued. Once again, it’s Your Choice.
